The Vendée
___________
The Vendée is located between the Côte d’Argent and Brittany, but has a character entirely of its own.
The Atlantic coast stretches 140 km, full of fine white sandy beaches and with an amazing 210 days of sunshine a year, almost as much as that of the South of France. The Vendée coast is known for its brightness and is locally called “La Côte de la Lumière” …
The beautiful Vendée is rich in many museums, castles and heritage. It is a land of naturally maintained space with a variety of pleasures such as sandsurfing, horseback riding, golf, water sports and there is a Spa thalassotherapy center for wonderful treatments.
Because the Vendée is flat and strewn with creeks and dunes with extensive beaches, you can fully relax here.
In the twilight there are the nice lively marinas with terraces and restaurants and beautiful evening shows. There is a wide variety of museums, gardens, festivals and folklore parades.
In the area there are also many options for a fun day out, together or with the whole family.
The region is covered with working salt marshes, oyster beds, potato fields, vineyards and offers a wealth of seafood.
The colorful beauty of the Vendée and diverse landscape of farmlands and the local marshes of Marais Poitevin Marshes, the forests, the sea and villages with their colorful markets with the local specialty “Brioche Vendéene” (a kind of bread with a sweet taste) are breathtaking .
You can also relive the past by visiting monasteries, abbeys, inhabited castles and the picturesque surroundings surrounded by beautiful windmills.
You can’t choose a better environment for fun by the sea, lots of space on the gently sloping beaches where you can cool off, or go for a picnic in the fragrant pine forests that run down to the sand dunes.
